FourCC : DIV3
You will see that the DIV3 codec refers to the DivX 3 codec. This was a very popular video codec used for compressing and decompressing video content. This has since been upgraded to DIVX 4 and higher. The codec was developed by DivX, Inc. in the late 1990’s. These as stated that it was widely used as video and audio sharing and distributing video content over the internet became very common.
This codec was originally designed to provide high-quality video compression. So while maintaining a relatively small file size. The DIVX codec achieves this by using advanced compression algorithms. This eliminates all the redundancies in the video data. This allows it to compress the file more efficiently than other codecs. See the article on DivX MPEG-4 audio compressor as well. There is also the DivX 3.11 codec.
Firstly as you will further note that the DIV3 codec is now considered outdated. This version has now been superseded by newer versions of the DivX codec. These include the DivX 7 and 8 as you will note. However, some legacy video content may still be encoded using the DIV3 codec. Finally it can still be played on compatible media players and software. You can also see the 3IV1 codec as well as the CSCD codec which is also on this website.
